Posted in Losers, Spammy Content on June 30th, 2008

We received the following email in relation to several of our domain names. It seems particularly smelly to me especially as the company that is supposedly wanting to purchase the domains would have no reason to be interested in our domain names.

Never fail to get a laugh out of this type of email. Love the way they try to convince you that it is not spam even though it is obviously a load crap.

Hidden text no no’s

Posted in Spammy Content on March 20th, 2006

Often when I’m explaining keyword density to clients, they come up with the idea of adding hidden text to their pages. Usually I then have to explain that it isn’t an orginal idea and it probably isn’t a good thing to do. Anyway for those of you who are a little slow to catch on here are a couple of recent examples from Google blogger Matt Cutts of websites caught out for gaming search engines with hidden text.

And a big goodbye to all the West Africian and FSU scammers who keep creating fake accounts on our websites. Your days of trying to rip off naive, lonely and desperate westerners has come to a close - thanks to the magic of geolocation.

And don’t think you can get away with using open proxies - you may think you’re invisible but ‘weeee caaan seeeee youuuuu‘.

Adwords spam

Posted in Spammy Content on February 8th, 2006

In the column to the left you should see 3 or 4 text advertisements. Now in a perfect world these advertisements should be context sensitive. That is, they should relate to the content of the page. However at the time of posting, they are showing ads relating to blogging sites and software.
I can only assume that the advertisers are bidding on keywords that are specific to the html code generated by Wordpress. Now these ads don’t reflect the site content and are unwanted. In my mind this constitutes spam.
I guess until I can figure out what that code is I’m going to have to block these losers one ad at a time through the Adsense competitive site filter - aaaargh this makes me mad…!
